Who This Checklist Is For
If you've just received a shipment of Midea equipment — window units, heat pumps, dehumidifiers, or even a tower fan — and you're tempted to start installation right away, pause. I've been the guy signing off on those orders for the past four years, and I can tell you: 5 minutes of verification beats 5 days of correction.
This checklist applies when you're unboxing any of these common Midea products:
- Midea U Inverter 8000 BTU window AC
- Midea Smart 50 Pint Dehumidifier (or similar large-capacity models)
- Midea tower fans (any model)
- Any other Midea refrigeration or heat-exchange unit

What to do: Pull up your purchase order. Match every field: model number, serial prefix, electrical rating, refrigerant type. Don't trust the box art. - Panels aligned? (Gaps > 1mm can indicate bent frame)

- Remote control and manual present? (missing items cause installation delays)
- Power cord intact, plug not damaged
I only believed this step was necessary after skipping it once and eating an $800 redo. Don't be me.
Step 3: Test Basic Functionality Before Mounting (Yes, Dry-Run It)
This is the step most people skip. They install, then realize the unit doesn't power on. I had 2 hours to decide before a rush installation deadline — normally I'd bench-test every unit, but the customer was waiting. I gambled. In hindsight, I should have pushed back. The unit was DOA, and we lost a day.
Now I test every Midea U Inverter the same way: plug it in on the ground, set it to cool at 18°C, wait 3 minutes. - Save the packing slip and any discrepancy report

Midea has multiple generations of the U Inverter. The 8000 BTU from 2024 has a different control board than the 2025 version. I've seen installs where the thermostat wiring was swapped because the diagram changed. Always use the specific manual for the serial number.
